Every collection should hold a few things that are simply a pleasure. This is one of them. Depancel is a small French house that builds motorsport-minded watches, and the Allure Mono Eye is its chronograph. Mint Green is the version that made us stop. A 39mm steel case, 45.8mm lug to lug, 11.5mm thick, so it tucks under a cuff. Behind the K1 hardened mineral crystal sits a sector dial: a mint green outer ring carrying applied indices, a circular-brushed black centre holding the pulsometer scale, and the tachymeter moved out to a brushed black rehaut, the way a racing instrument should read. Printed along the top, in plain capitals: MOTOR RACING INSTRUMENT. Mono Eye is the layout. One sub-counter, sixty minutes, set at nine o'clock across the joint between the two sectors. Nothing wasted and nothing added for decoration.

The Allure in black. The same French racing instrument as the Mint Green, dressed for night: a black dial with an orange central seconds hand, three subdials, a tachymeter flange, and an integrated racing-link bracelet on a tonneau-cushion steel case.

A Montblanc Writers Edition Agatha Christie, 1993 — the first Writers Edition the house made. Rollerball, so it is capless: twist the knurled cap and the tip extends from the barrel. Black precious resin, an 925 sterling silver snake clip with two ruby eyes, an ivory-and-cream cap star in place of the usual white one, the Agatha Christie script signature on the cap, and MONTBLANC on the cap band.

A 2000s Zodiac Super SeaDragon GMT dual-time world timer, approx. 50mm, with an orange dial and black coin-edge bezel. Bought from the son of its only owner, recently serviced. Supplied on a NATO strap, with the original tan Zodiac-stamped strap also included. The original strap has split at the lug end and will need replacing; at sale we will either deduct the cost of a replacement strap or supply the watch on the NATO, buyer's choice.
